0.00.100.3013 - Custom Stage Compatibility, UI Update, Zombies Online, and More.

We've been hard at work this weekend pushing out the updates that solves much of the stability issues from custom stages and online play. We appreciate everyone's patience as we slowly build the game into a polished experience. This version, while not totally bug free, should be stable enough to run any battle mode offline, all modes excluding Key Hunt online, and custom stages, though custom stages online still has a roughly 30% failure rate. We've been able to decrease the chances of crashing by over 90%, but there's still the chance of being kicked out of the room or even hard-lagging out.
The root of this update though was to transition the format of custom stages fully over to including the version information of the game that exported it. That way in the future, if anything changes to the format, the game will know how to port levels automatically to the next format. Something similar is in the works is happening with the player profile data, but that's not nearly as urgent and would be a cosmetic thing if anything at this point.
After this update, there'll be polishing of the visuals and new sound effects. We also want to add social features, such as adding friends from in-game, the Player Listings feature like in BBDeluxe where one could see a list of the people playing, as well as specific battle options to the main UI. Other features mentioned in this post are also in the works, but as you can see there's limited bandwidth on how fast we can push on development.
Release Notes
- Moved the back button in the menus to free up some screen space and give everything a cleaner look, BBDeluxe style.
- You can now see your friend code in the menu, setting the stage for future friend-finding features.
- Online multiplayer just got even more intense with Zombie matches and Untimed modes. Get ready to duke it out until there's only one standing or someone hits 15,000 points in Classic Mode.
- We'll keep you in the online lobby if we can't find a server or connect, so no more manual exits and re-entries.
- The room list now auto-updates, no more manual refreshes required.
- You can also see and try to join rooms that are full. This is because rooms can be filled with bots, and once you join, you'll take their spot.
- The server that goes with this version allows for you to hop into a Quick Play Room and it automatically starts if it's set to fill with bots. Now, it really is a Quick Play Room, not a "Wait for someone to join" room.
- There was a bug where in the lobby, you couldn't navigate past two pages. That's now fixed.
- In spectating, there was a bug where you could hear the sound effects of whoever you were spectating getting items and points. That's now removed, but you can still see their item thought bubble and points.
- Also in spectating, there was a bug that crashed the game based on a spawn. We hope that's fixed.
- There's also a glitch in spectating that starts the camera off in the center of the screen, and it doesn't follow anyone. The player can now navigate around with the arrow keys while that gets worked out. (If it happens, there's probably a crash coming soon.)
- In online multiplayer and spectating, you can now leave the match from in-game.
- "Half" minutes online was never really supported, so it's back to how it should be when setting up a match.
- The developer console is now available without debug mode. You can change settings that don't have an official UI yet, such as custom item balancing and the 432Hz music mode.
- Fixed a bug where entering online play with no server stops the music. The music replayed upon going to somewhere else in the menu, but now it's continual.
- In battle mode, the after-death ghost no longer appears tiny if it forms while the screen is zoomed out. We may add this back in the future and give it some depth (i.e. appearing behind the tiles).
- In online matches, enemies now make contact after battles finish. Before this, homing items circled around the player.
- Message buttons (such as the "Yes" and "No") should now work with mouse presses when not in a menu. Still relatively untested for 2P/Split-Screen.
- Disabled VSync. This allows for major performance improvements, as the frame rate is no longer slashed in half if some lag happens.
- Also for those with more experience (literally), we'll allow you to use Purpz, Cyana, Renji and Blacky after 2000 Online Battle XP.
Freshly downloaded packs from Google Drive have a fix for the Stars A, where in the bottom right corner of the stage, those spikes weren't solid.
They also have the "CheckForUpdates" executable that'll download new versions of the game. It doesn't fetch stage updates, but the intent is to eventually incorporate official stages into the game file itself. Getting a new update now is simply a matter of running that application.
