Custom Stage Information Sticky Empty Custom Stage Information Sticky

The Ballland: World level editor is a simple and customizable way to generate user levels, puzzles, and arenas that can easily shared with other players around the world either through direct sharing, or by hosting on a multiplayer server. Level editors are only available for desktop platforms as of version 0.0.0.1.

This post is about the basics of interfacing with the level editor and how to find and share your levels. For guides check these out:

The Custom Function Object Guide

Installing Custom Stages

Step 1: Download the stage, and move it to the game folder.

Step 2: Run the install script. This will move the stages into the proper folder for the game to run them.

Step 3: In the game, play or edit the level by finding it on the stage select screen or by entering its name with the Custom Stage button (i.e. "empty space 2.bwl" is called "empty space 2").

Finding Your Saved Stages

After saving a stage from the included level editor, your level will be available on your computer's filesystem.
  • On Windows targets, these are under the directory C:\Users\your_username\AppData\Local\BalllandWorld.
  • On Mac, this directory is ~/Library/Applications Support/BalllandWorld.
  • On Linux, this directory is ~/.config/BalllandWorld.
  • On GX.Games, HTML5, and console, the level editor cannot yet support level sharing, but can play custom levels through online multiplayer servers that host the custom level.

Supporting Custom Stages on Multiplayer Servers

On hosted servers, custom stages can be simply dropped in the same directory as the application itself, which contains data.bin. Players on your server, if your custom-stage setting is active, can reference the custom stage by finding it on the stage select screen or by searching with its filename, excluding the .bws or .bwl extension (i.e. "empty space 2.bwl" is called "empty space 2")
