0.0.100.3040 - Visuals, Friends, New Backgrounds and More

Update x.3040 brings a number of visual and functional improvements to the BWorld experience and is an update for both Desktop and HTML5 platforms. We're smack in the middle of the UI upgrade, background additions, and the tileset revamp. This update re-establishes compatibility with the server and introduces many new features.

- Substantially reduced chance of crash due to bad server data. We've worked on and fixed major crash-points in online multiplayer. The game internally will now return the 0 that the engine said it would in the event of incomplete data transfer, leading to no more crashes based on that error.
For the most part, one can now play many online sessions without major problems. Disconnecting online will still send you back to the online lobby for automatic reconnecting. If a custom stage fails to load, we'll just send you back to the lobby. - Custom stages now show loading progress. Once a custom stage is selected online, its progress will be shown along the bottom of the screen. Also, custom stages that a server owns show up as additional pages on the Stage Select Screen. Now one can just click the stage they want, rather than pressing the Custom Stage button and typing its name. (That option is still there for servers with huge lists and not enough time to click through and search for them.)
- You can now add friends and view their status. This update brings along the Player List, just like from BBDeluxe. The Player List feature allows for you to both view a list of friends and friend requests, along with a list of the top players on the server. Players can now initiate friend requests from the Battle Results Screen online. Those friend requests will show up in the person's friend list.
- New Results Screen Sidebar. The results screen is now a tad livelier: It shows an XP progress bar and is rethemed to look a little cleaner. We've added badge rewards for specific things done during a battle.
Currently the badges available are based on ranking, but will include things such as "most kills", "most time spent frozen", and more little things like that. Internally the game knows when you've leveled up, so in future update there'll be more polish with the post-battle experience. - Many New Backgrounds in the Level Editor. We've added plenty of new backgrounds for use in both adventure levels and battle arenas and they're now properly named:
- Techy Tech Grey (10)
- Sunrise (15)
- City Night (16)
- Dreamy Night (17)
- City Blue (18)
- City Alternate (19)
- Techy Tech Rainbow (20) - New visual and audio effects. The camera now colors itself when you use a Speed, Superspeed, or Invincibility powerup. It also darkens for a Slowmo. Enemies like Pinballs and Purples now have just a tad more life, and Reds smile when their target is dead. When scoring in battle, you can now hear a raised pitch for combo kills or turning multiple keys in Key Hunt.
- You can now left click to place both objects and tiles in the level editor. Right-clicking removes tiles, and middle clicking removes objects.
Also, new tiles have been added. Spike colors have been shifted to follow a rainbow pattern. This may throw off some spike colors in already made levels but can be fixed by simply replacing the spike with the pre-update color.
Bugs and Crashes Fixed:
- Fake item balls affecting invincible players. Fixed.
- Invincible music playing still after dying while invincible. Fixed.
- Game crashes when a player joins your room and you're in the lobby. Fixed.
- Secondary "item get" sound was same pitch as primary. Now it's a higher pitch as intended.
- Sending items online with latency led to items being thrown in different directions than intended. Now the game will properly send the item at the place it was commanded to be sent for the thrower.
- Colliding with enemies in adventure levels crash. Fixed.
- Enemy spawns in adventure levels displaced the camera. Fixed.
